From the Desk of Pete Elliot

Coming in 2012

Last month I wrote about our view of the changes ahead in this second decade of the 21st Century. A far more experienced and well known forecaster, Gartner Research has weighed in with their predictions for 2012. These are laid out in their Predicts 2012 report. That report specifies Cloud Computing, social media/networking, mobile technology and information management as technologies evolving at a faster pace this year. Additionally, managers need to contend with Big Data pouring in from multiple sources in multiple forms to be analyzed with methodologies new to many IT departments.

Underlying the emerging importance of user organizations, Gartner predicts users will want to access their personal, work, business apps and data from any device, anytime, anywhere. To add insult to injury, the control of all these technologies is migrating out of IT organizations and into user departments.

Clearly, 2012 looks to be a challenging year for the IT industry. At Key Info, we are making plans to provide both education and services to assist our clients to negotiate this year of unusual change.
